Cholla Recreation Site is located on Theodore Roosevelt Lake, central Arizona’s largest lake. It offers expansive views of the Four Peaks Wilderness, Salome Canyon, and the Sierra Ancha mountain range.  The campground contains an extensive selection of both RV and tent-only sites, and is one of the largest solar-powered campgrounds in the United States.  Potable water, toilet buildings, showers, playgrounds, and a paved boat launch with a courtesy dock are available for campers.  Cholla RV dump station, located across from Christmas Loop, is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm.

Fees $20/site/night for individual camp unit; $40/site/night for double camp unit; Senior and Access Interagency Pass Holders receive a 50% discount.  Campground fees must be paid for at the fee machine located at the campground.

Restrictions: Stay limit 14 days, trailers under 32'. Rules and regulations are posted on bulletin board. Please read and observe. Please use trash receptacles, or pack it in pack it out.

General Information


This site is 5 miles north of Roosevelt Dam. From Mesa: Take State Hwy. 87/Beeline Highway north for about 60 miles to its junction with State Hwy. 188. Turn right and follow State Hwy. 188 south for 28 miles to the site.

From the Globe area: Take State Hwy. 188 north for 30 miles to its junction with State Hwy. 188. Continue on State Hwy. 188 across the bridge for 6 miles to the site.


The area offers access to visitors using wheelchairs with proficient mobility. Camp units and trails have compacted gravel surfaces. Toilets, showers and picnic tables are fully accessible.
