Located on central Arizona's largest lake, great water recreation opportunities are available to the public at Schoolhouse Campground. Its close proximity to the lake, means that campers at Schoolhouse can enjoy fishing, non-motorized and motorized boating, along with shoreline hiking trails. There are plenty of campsites available at Schoolhouse, providing an easy, quick escape duany time of the year for families and individuals.

At a Glance

Current Conditions: Restroom cleaning and trash collection services will only be provided once per week. Please pack it in, pack it out.
Reservations: First come, first serve for even numbered sites. Reservations can be arranged for odd numbered sites on or by calling 877-444-6777 or TDD line: 877-833-6777. Reservations are only available November 1st through April 30th.
Fees $20/site/night; $40/site/night for double camp unit; America the Beautiful Interagency Senior or Access Pass holders receive 50% discount (persons over 62 or have a permanent disability) for single camp units only. Campground fees must be paid for at the fee machine located at the campground. 
Open Season: Year-round
Restrictions: Stay limit 14 days, trailers under 32', pack it in pack it out, Rules and regulations are posted on bulletin board. Please use trash receptacles, when available, The adjacent boating site has a paved boat launch ramp with courtesy dock -- useable when water elevations are higher than 2,110 feet.

General Information


This site is located 11 miles south of the historic Roosevelt Dam. From Mesa: Take the State Hwy. 87/Beeline Highway north for about 60 miles to the junction with State Hwy. 88. Continue on State Hwy. 88 south for 8 miles to Forest Road (FR) 447/Schoolhouse Recreation Site. Turn left and continue for 4 miles to the site.

From Globe: area: Take State Hwy. 188 north for 20 miles to its junction with Forest Road (FR) 447/Schoolhouse Recreation Site, turn right and continue for 4 miles to the site.


This site contains numerous barrier-free camp units. Toilets and picnic tables are fully accessible.
