Burnt Corral

Burnt Corral Campground and Day Use Area is set among the canyon walls of Apache Lake, which allows for great water recreation activities. Nearby are impressive views of mountains, canyons, wildlife and Roosevelt Dam. Because of its close proximity to Apache Lake, Burnt Corral allows fishing, non-motorized and motorized boating.  There are 82 developed campsites available at Burnt Corral, which allows for a great escape any time of the year for families or individuals. Burnt Corral has highly accessible areas, with slopes that are under 5% and concrete or compacted gravel grounds.

Reservations: First come, first serve for even numbered sites. Reservations can be arranged for odd numbered sites on Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777 or TDD line: 877-833-6777. Reservations are only available November 1 through April 30.
Fees: $20/site/night for individual camp unit; $40/site/night for double camp unit; America the Beautiful Interagency Senior or Access Pass holders receive 50% discount (persons over 62 or living with a permanent disability) for single camp units only.
Open Season: Year-round
Restrictions:
  • 14-day stay limit.
  • Trailers under 22 feet.
  • Stay limit is 14 days.
  • Sewage dump facilities are located 5 miles north of the junction of State Hwy. 88 and State Hwy.188, across from Cholla Campground (no fee). 
  • Parts of State Hwy. 88 are a narrow gravel road.
  • Please use trash receptacles.
  • In the winter, temperatures drop into the teens.
  • PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT.
  • Quiet hours 10:00 pm to 6:00 am (running generators are not permitted during quiet hours).
Drive with care! Towing boats on this road on busy weekends should be done with great caution.

General Information

Directions:

This site is 6 miles south of Roosevelt Dam on the south shoreline of Apache Lake. From Mesa: Take the Beeline Highway/State Hwy.87 north for approximately 60 miles to the junction of State Hwy. 188. Turn right and follow State Hwy. 188 for 33 miles to the junction with State Hwy. 88. Turn right on State Hwy. 88 and drive past Roosevelt Dam. Follow State Hwy. 88 for 5 miles to Forest Road (FR) 183; turn right and continue an additional mile to the site.

From Claypool (between Globe & Miami): Take State Hwy. 188 northwest for 29 miles to the junction of State Hwy. 88. Follow State Hwy. 88 (it heads southwest and becomes an unpaved road) for 5 miles to Forest Road (FR) 183; turn right and continue an additional mile to the site.

From Apache Junction: Drive north on State Hwy. 88 for 38 miles. (Last 20 miles of 88 are unpaved.) FR 183/Burnt Corral Rec. Site – turn left and continue to site.

SR 88 is currently CLOSED between Fish Point and the Apache Lake Marina, pending repairs by ADOT.

Activities

Campground Camping

  • Camping at Burnt Corral is permitted in designated areas. 
  • Camp sites include fire ring, grill, and picnic tables.
  • Maximum occupancy per individual camp unit is 10.
  • Maximum number of vehicles per individual camp unit is three.  All vehicles must completely fit within the designated parking area.
  • Check-in time is 12:00 pm, and check-out time is 10:00 am
