Frazier Campground & Trailhead


Area Status: Open

This campground serves as the northern gateway to the Winom-Frazier Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) trail system, with over 100 miles of trail to ride.  It features 20 campsites and 4 accessible vault toilets.  There is a large day-use picnic shelter near the campground entrance.  Trailhead parking and an interpretive sign is located in the upper loop of the campground, near the Butcherknife Trail #3189. There is no potable water or garbage service, so please pack your garbage home. 

The nearby area offers hunting, OHV riding, sight-seeing, and photography. The Tower Fire Lookout is a little more than 9 miles south of the campground on Forest Service Road 5226.  

At a Glance

Current Conditions: Campground fees will be charged through November 15. The campground is not maintained but is still available throughout the winter. Access will be snowmobiles only once the road is inaccessible due to snow. Please contact the North fork John Day Ranger District for more information.
Operational Hours: The campground is closed only by snow.  However, it is only maintained seasonally from Memorial Day until mid-November.

  • Single sites: $10/night (extra $5 fee per vehicle exceeding the two-vehicle-per-site allowance).
  • Group sites: Sites 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10 are $25/night (no extra vehicle charge).

General Information

Directions:

From Ukiah, OR, travel east on Oregon State Highway 244 for 16 miles.  Turn right on Forest Service Road 5226. Frazier Campground/Trailhead is located about 3/4 mile up on the left.


Accessibility:

Sites 5 and 6 (group), 15 and 16 are accessible to wheelchairs.

Campground Camping

This campground was updated in 2010 with new gravel in parking areas, picnic tables, fire rings, pull-through parking at some sites and larger group sites.  There is a large picnic shelter for day use functions.

RV Camping

This campground was redesigned in 2010 to  better accomodate today's longer RVs and RVs pulling trailers.  There are 8 pull-through sites (no backing needed) and 13 sites large enough for a 40-foot RV.
