This segment travels west to east on the lower slopes of Bunker Hill through mixed-conifer forests of Douglas-fir, lodgepole and ponderosa pine. Lemolo Reservoir, the largest reservoir in the North Umpqua Hydroelectric Project, is south of this portion of the North Umpqua Trail. Toward the eastern edge of this segment is Chrystal Springs. To reach the springs, follow Forest Road 700 north from where it intersects with the trail. In approximately 0.5 mile, you will reach Crystal Springs and a dispersed campsite.

This trail provides access to Poole Creek Campground, East Lemolo Campground and Lemolo Lakes Trail #1578.

Directions:

From Roseburg, OR Turn on OR-138 east / northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard. Continue on Highway 138:

Western Trailhead:

  • To reach the White Mule Trailhead, turn north off Hwy 138 at milepost 72 onto Forest Road 2610 (Birds Point Road) and travel 5.2 miles across dam which forms Lemolo Reservoir. Stay left onto Forest Road 2610 about 0.75 mile. Trailhead is on the left. Parking available for three standard vehicles, very tight for horse trailers.

Eastern Trailhead:

  • To reach the Kelsay Valley Trailhead, turn north off Highway 138 at milepost 74 to Forest Road 60 (Windigo Pass Road). Go 4.5 miles, turn right onto Forest Road 6000-958 (Kelsay Valley Road). Trailhead is at the end of the road (1.5 miles). North Umpqua Trail is accessed by following Trail #1412 for 0.1 mile and then the Porcupine Connect Trail #1412A for 0.2 mile.
