Thielsen Creek Trail #1449
This trail connects the Howlock Mountain Trail #1448 to Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail #2000 within Mt. Thielsen Wilderness. It passes through mountain hemlock and true fir stands while paralleling Thielsen Creek most of the way. Fragile pumice openings become larger and more frequent as you near the timberline.
Thielsen Creek Camp is located just south of the trail 0.2 miles from its junction with the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. This is a popular camping spot with water and a magnificent view of the backside of Mt. Thielsen.
The Thielsen Creek Trail can be accessed via Howlock Mountain Trail, 3.5 miles east of Howlock Mountain Trailhead, ;at Thielsen Creek within the wilderness boundary. It can also be accessed via Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, 22 miles from Windigo Pass Trailhead or 8 miles from the North Crater Trailhead. This trail is popular with Nordic skiers in the winter.

From Roseburg, OR, take OR0138 east / northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard. Continue on Highway 138 and at milepost 78, take Forest Road 4795 (Diamond Lake Loop Road) to the north entrance to the Diamond Lake Recreation Area. Go 0.3 mile on Forest Road 4795 to the Howlock Mountain Trailhead (fee site) on the left.
The Thielsen Creek Trail intersects the Howlock Trail 3.5 miles from the trailhead.
