Yakso Falls Trail #1519
This trail leads to a section of Little River that drops 60 feet over a rock cliff, forming Yakso Falls. 1. "Yakso" in Chinook language means "hair of a woman”—the fall got its name from the way that the rock wall separates the tumbling water into delicate, lacy tendrils.
The trail travels through older forest and over a wooden footbridge, then comes to an end at a tall step. Climbing down the step allows trail users to see the falls from the rocky base, although the view from the end of the trail is beautiful by itself. In the spring, wildflowers and rhododendron grow along the trail, while in the fall, vine maples turn the understory shades of red, orange, and yellow.

General Information
Directions:From Roseburg, OR, turn onto OR-138 east / northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard. Take Highway 138 west for 17 miles before turning right (south) onto County Road 17 (Little River Road). Follow County Road 17 for 20 miles where it becomes Forest Road 27 with a gravel surface. Continue on Forest Road 27 for 7 miles to Lake in the Woods Campground and the trailhead. The trail begins on Forest Road 27 across from Lake in the Woods Campgrounds and ends at Yakso Falls.
Parking:
- Trailhead parking provides a favorable opportunity for turning around vehicles with trailers.
General Notes:
- Mosquitos are present in late spring and early summer.
- Mosquito deterrent is recommended.
