This spur trail leaves the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Trail #1470 in the southern portion of the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Wilderness and follows an old road to Abbott Butte.

From Abbott Butte Trailhead follow Rogue-Umpqua Divide Trail #1470 for 3 miles to reach the junction with Abbott Butte Trail #1470A. The Abbott Butte Trail #1470A is a short half-mile journey to a lookout site where you can see the Cascade Range, the rim of Crater Lake, and even Mount Shasta on a clear day. Be sure to stop and view the wildflowers, which are abundant in spring.

The Abbott Butte Lookout, built in 1939, is deteriorating and entering or climbing it is not recommended.

Directions:

Abbott Butte Trailhead: From Canyonville, OR take West 1st Street and turn onto SE 3rd St/OR-227. Continue to follow OR-227 approximately 23 miles until you reach Tiller.  From Tiller, OR take County Road 46 to Jackson Creek Road 29. Follow Jackson Creek Road 29 to Forest Road 68, just past Cover Campground. Turn south onto Forest Road 68 and follow to the top of the Rogue-Umpqua Divide and the Abbott Butte Trailhead.

The Abbott Butte Trailhead is undeveloped with parking for two to four vehicles and limited room for horse trailers.

Follow Trail #1470 for about 3 miles to Trail #1470A.
