The trail goes southwest through high elevation forest and open meadows to the ridge dividing the South Umpqua and North Umpqua River drainage's. It then turns east through a mix of managed forests to an area locally known as Dead Cow Lake. Turning north it returns to Hemlock Lake. This trail joins with Flat Rock Trail #1526 at milepost 1.25 and Snowbird Shelter Trail #1517 at milepost 4. Wildlife can be seen in the meadows from June through July.

Directions:

From Roseburg, OR, take OR-138 east / northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard towards the town of Glide, OR. At milepost 17, turn right (south) onto County Road 17 (Little River Road). Follow County Road 17 for 20 miles, where it changes into Forest Road 27 with a gravel surface. Follow Forest Road 27 another 12 miles to Forest Road 2700-495, on the right, which leads to Hemlock Lake Campground. The loop trail begins at the picnic area parking lot at Hemlock Lake Campground.

  • Trailhead parking provides a favorable opportunity for turning around vehicles with trailers.
