In 1937, an earth and rock dam, 103 feet high and 550 feet long, was constructed in Ogden Valley under the direction of the Bureau of Reclamation. The purpose of the dam was to control and store Ogden River flood waters. This created Pineview Reservoir with a storage capacity of 44,175 acre-feet. In 1957, an enlargement of the original structure was completed. The 132-foot high and 600-foot long dam increased the capacity to its present 110,000 acre-feet. The Forest Service began management of the recreation facilities at the reservoir on September 21, 1940.
This reservoir is the busiest in the State of Utah for it's size. Dogs are welcome anywhere along the shoreline EXCEPT at the developed beaches at Cemetery Point, Middle Inlet, or Anderson Cove.
The reservoir has buoys marking areas of the water surface designated with speed or boating restrictions. The limit of the number of boats on the lake at one time is monitored at the ramps.

Sand Play
Pineview has both sandy beaches and mud/dirt shorelines. The water level is drawn down each summer for irrigation uses. Early season may have very little beach anywhere.
Lake and Pond Fishing
Fishing occurs nearly everwhere at the reservoir. Types of fish in Pineview are warm water species including the planted Tiger Muskie which are reaching record sizes. Check the State of Utah fishing regulations since there are size and quantity limits.
There are many roadside parking areas all around the reservoir. Popular sites are in the shallow waters of the reservoir on the south-east or north-east sides.
A “no wake” area has been designated for fishing in the waters just north of the Huntsville peninsula at the east shore (Spring Creek).
Boating - Motorized
Pineview Reservoir is the busiest reservoir for it's size in the State of Utah. This is because of it's close proximity to Davis and Weber Counties population centers. You can leave your home and be at the water's edge within one-half hour. The scenery around Pineview is worth the visit. Seeing the mountains from the surface of the water is an experience to remember.
Boating laws are enforced by Weber County Sheriff Deputies cooperating with Utah Parks and Recreation.
The ramps, campgrounds, and picnicgrounds are owned by the US Forest Service and operated under a special use permit. The water levels and dam are owned and operated by the USDI Bureau of Reclamation and local irrigation companies.
