Anthony Lakes Guard Station
The Anthony Lakes Guard Station is a historic Civilian Conservation Corps log cabin built in the 1930s. Nestled in the subalpine setting of the Elkhorn Mountains near Anthony Lake the cabin can now be yours for a mini-vacation. This comfortable, rustic two-story cabin features a kitchen, a full bathroom with a flush toilet and hot shower, three bedrooms (two upstairs and one downstairs), propane heater and electric lights. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric stove and refrigerator, as well as cooking and eating utensils and place settings. Cell phone reception is limited outside of the cabin. Due to the historic nature of the cabin it is not an accessible facility.
For all of the logging done in the Pacific Northwest, very few of the Forest Service cabins were built of logs, making Anthony Lakes Guard Station, nestled in the alpine setting of the Elkhorn Mountains, a rare and romantic gem. Hike through the miles of wilderness or sit on the large covered front porch and watch for hawks and osprey. Sit back and daydream about the life of a homesteader, taming wild lands and eking out a living. Popular activities include fishing, boating, hiking, taking photos, studying wildflowers or napping.
Anthony Lake forms the source of Anthony Creek, named for William 'Doc' Anthony, an ambitious homesteader who came to Baker County in 1864. He was a farmer and a doctor, collected tolls on the Dealy Wagon Road for a spell, and ran the ranch until his death at 85 in 1914.
Located nearby are Anthony Lakes Picnic Area and Boat Launch.

General Information
Directions:From Baker City, OR, head north on Highway 30 toward Haines approximately 10 miles; In Haines turn left and follow the Anthony Lake Highway signs (turns into Forest Road 73) for 25 miles to the Anthony Lake Recreation Area. Turn left into the Anthony Lake Campground. The guard station is on right across from the picnic shelter on the north side of the lake.
From La Grande, OR, head south on Interstate 84 for 25 mile to exit 285 inNorth Powder, Oregon; In North Powder follow the ski area signs on Highway 237 for 4 miles to Ellis Road; Turn left on Ellis Road and go about 1 mile to the Anthony Lake Highway; Turn right and follow the Anthony Lake Highway (becomes Forest Road 73) for 16 miles to campground entrance on your left. The guard station is on right across from the picnic shelter on the north side of the lake.

Annual Accomplishments with Recreation Rentals Fees
The 2005 Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA) permits federal land management agencies to charge modest fees at campgrounds, trailheads, rental cabins and other high-impact recreation areas on federal lands. Similar to other national forests, the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest re-invests over 95% of these funds to maintain, operate and enhance the facility where they were collected. These annual accomplishments make the facility safer and more enjoyable for our visitors.

Boating - Motorized
Electric motor boats are allowed on the lake. A small boat ramp is located on the east side of the lake for launching however a day use fee is required if you park at the ramp or in the day-use area.
