Forest picnic area in the pine trees

Located in an open meadow along the Elkhorn Scenic Byway, this small picnic area is popular for travelers needing a 'stretch and walk around' stop on their journey. From the parking area visitors can read about local song birds, bald eagles and ospreys that are often seen around Phillips Lake. They can also enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the 5 sites, or take a short hike on the Phillips Lake North Shoreline Trail #1608.

From Baker City, Oregon travel south on Highway 7 (also known as the Elkhorn Scenic Byway) towards John Day, Oregon for about 21 miles; The entrance to the picnic area is signed on the left side of the highway.
