Alpine Trail #3450

Alpine Trail starts at 3,200 ft. elevation and ends at 5,000 ft. The trail is 9.3 miles long. It is open to hikers, mountain bikers and horses. As you traverse up the ridge at a moderate climb, you'll pass the Westfir Tie trail after about a mile, before entering meadows on top of the ridge. You cross Forest Road 5828 and the parallel spur Road 585 about 0.25 mile, drop onto the trail for another 0.25 mile before crossing Road 585 again which you follow a short distance before merging with an old road grade.

You cross Forest Road 5828 near the junction of Road 687 and traverse below Buckhead Mountain, with views to the west. You then cross the end of Forest Road 1910-683 and continue past the junction of the Tire Mountain Trail before reaching Forest Road 1911. Most of this section is also a part of the Eugene-to-Crest Trail.

To reach the next trailhead, follow Forest Road 1911 and turn north on Forest Road 1910 to its junction with Forest Road 1912 (approximately 0.5 mile). After climbing over a knob, you drop down to cross Forest Road 1912 and climb again to reach Sourgrass Mountain, the trail's high point.

From here you roller coaster up and down, cross Forest Road 1824-291, pass through a flat beargrass meadow and onto Elk Camp Shelter. It continues past the shelter and crosses Forest Road 1824-290, before ending at the junction of Roads 1912 and 1825.
