General Information


To reach the west trailhead, travel east from the Lowell Service Center on the North Shore Road, Forest Road 5821, for 13.1 miles to Forest Road 5824. The North Shore Road parallels the north shore of Lookout Point Lake. Turn left on Forest Road 5824 and proceed 4.5 miles for Forest Road 124. Keep right and go 0.5 mile to the trailhead, which is located on the left. 

To reach the east trailhead, travel from the Middle Fork Range District office on the Westfir Road for approximately 3.0 miles, to Forest Road 1910. Turn right and continue for 6-7 miles to Forest Road 1911, turn left. The trailhead is approximately 0.5 miles on the left. Take the Alpine Trail approximately 0.75 miles to reach the eastern end of the Tire Mountain Trail, found on the right. 

The east end of the trail can be reached by traveling to one of the Alpine Trailheads, which are reached, by traveling east on Highway 58 to the Westfir junction (Highway 58 Milepost 31.5) through Westfir, up Forest Road 19 to Forest Road 1910, to Forest Road 1911 and the Alpine Trailhead. A 0.75 mile hike on the Alpine Trail will give access to the Tire Mountain Trail.
