Lone Wolf / Patterson Mountain Trail #3470

The trail follows along the edge of a stand of young trees for a while before entering a stand of larger trees. There is a slight downgrade on the trail. It passes a junction with the Lawler Trail #3473 (on the right), crosses a small meadow and then skirts the edge of a large meadow. After about 1 mile from the trailhead there is a short side trail (to the right), which accesses the Lone Wolf Shelter. Beyond here, the trail was designed to accommodate wheelchairs. Thus the next set of switchbacks provides a gradual climb to the top of the ridge. It descends for a short distance to enter a saddle then climbs again to the west end of Patterson Mountain where there is a grand view of the southern end of the Willamette Valley.

General Notes:

Map of Lone Wolf trail

As one of the higher peaks in the front range, Patterson Mountain receives the brunt of harsh winter weather. Evidence of past storms can be seen in the older trees, as many have broken or multiple tops.
