At a Glance

Current Conditions: Starting in 2021, visitors to the Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Washington, and Three Sisters Wilderness Areas may need a Central Cascades Wilderness Permit for overnight and day use. Learn more.
Operational Hours: Access is dependent on McKenzie Highway (OR Hwy 242), which is closed in the winter. Check tripcheck.com for conditions. HWY 242 Closed 10/21/2021 for winter season. Lower gate closed at White Branch.
Fees $5/vehicle/day or valid recreation pass.
Permit Info: Wilderness Permits required for visitors to the Three Sisters Wilderness. Overnight visitors:
  • Friday of Memorial Day weekend through the last Friday of September: Central Cascades Wilderness Permit required; reserve at recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Learn more.
  • After Central Cascade Wilderness permit season (usually last Saturday in September) to October 31: free, unlimited Wilderness self-issue permit required (available at trailhead).

Parking:

 

Trailhead parking is limited. Hiker only, trail not maintained for stock.

Directions:

From McKenzie Bridge, OR, travel east on Highway 126 to Highway 242. Travel east on Highway 242 for 11 miles to the parking area at Alder Springs Campground on the north side of the highway. Linton Lake Trailhead is directly across the highway south from the parking area.
