Abstract

Prescribed fire is used on more than 12 million acres (4.9 million hectares) in the United States annually. It is a critical strategic management tool for hazardous fuels reduction and the resilience of fireadapted landscapes. In recognition of its value, the President's Budget for fiscal year 2020 called for $450 million in funding for hazardous fuels reduction for USDA alone.
