Collaborative Capacity in Community Wildfire Protection Planning

Project social scientist Daniel R. Williams , in collaboration with Research Forester Pam Jakes of the North Central Research Station, co-leads a Joint Fire Science Program funded project to study collaborative efforts in Community Wildfire Protection Planning associated the Healthy Forest Restoration Act. The aim of this research project is to develop tools and strategies that will: (1) improve the ability of agencies, organizations, communities, and citizens to work collaboratively to reduce the risks of wildland fire, and (2) enhance the long-term social capacity of communities to address wildfire risk by understanding how these planning activities overcome barriers and/or expand opportunities for planning and implementing fuel reduction projects. Additional information on research partners, objectives, and progress is available from the Project Website.
