A group of the Human Dimensions Program |
The Big Elk Fire Field TripMike Foley and John Bustos from the Arapahoe-Roosevelt National Forest got together with the Rocky Mountain Research Station social scientists on August 23, 2002 for a field trip to the area of the Big Elk Fire near Estes Park, Colorado. The group also included Dr. Ian Bateman from the University of East Anglia in the UK; Tony Simons, the Larimer County Fire Specialist; and Dr. Joseph Champ of Champ Communication Research. The field trip was an opportunity for the researchers to better understand the social and economic issues associated with a wildfire. It was also a good opportunity for the researchers to wear hardhats and get dirty.
