This interim report represents the culmination of 9 months of exploration into the complex system by which seeds of native plants are produced and used in the United States. This system plays an essential but under-recognized role in the maintenance and restoration of the nation’s natural and semi-natural areas, including national parks and forests, rangelands, roadsides, lands recovered after energy development, and many, many others.

Seeds of Success (SOS) is a national seed collection program led by the Bureau of Land Management. SOS represents the most comprehensive native seed repository in the United States, supporting native plant restoration, management, and research. Since inception in 2000, SOS has collected seeds from over 24,400 native plant populations from ~5,600 taxa from 43 states.

Chromosome numbers of some Texas grasses

This is a second report on the chromosome numbers of native and introduced grasses. The first report (Brown, 1950) concerned the chromosome numbers of eighty species in thirty-eight genera of nine tribes of the Gramineae. The present is the result of a cytological study of forty-four species (all but two additional to the first report) in twenty-four genera of five tribes.
