NorWeST aggregates stream temperature data from the Northwestern U.S. into a stream temperature database, and uses the data to develop stream temperature models.
Temperature data and model outputs, registered to NHDPlus stream lines, are posted to the website after quality assurance / quality control and development of the final temperature model within a river basin. Data are accessible through an interactive temperature map. It is hoped that open access to the data and the availability of accurate stream temperature scenarios will foster new research and collaborative relationships that enhance management and conservation of aquatic resources.
Funding for the project was provided by the the Great Northern Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GNLCC) and North Pacific LCC (NPLCC), with additional funds and in-kind support from the U.S. Forest Service, USGS, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, California Fish Passage Forum, and NASA.
Special thanks to all the managers and researchers from dozens of resources agencies for contributing their stream temperature data to make this project possible.
