Testing Requirement
Testing is required for each person who requires more than OSHA Hazard Communication and Materials of Trade training. Tests are linked below under the Materials of Trade Training and the Additional Training sections. Tests may also be developed locally with regard to hazardous materials that are commonly transported.
Training Requirement
Training is required within 90 days of employment and a refresher of this training is required every three years thereafter.
Introduction to Hazmat
This introductory presentation describes why this training is required and who must complete each module. Training objectives, refresher training requirements, training records, and testing are discussed. This presentation is recommended for all employees but is especially important for hazardous materials coordinators and trainers.
Materials of Trade Training is the only training required, other than OSHA Hazard Communication training, if all fuel containers are 8 gallons or smaller and the total weight of all hazardous material being transported on one vehicle is 440 pounds or less.
These four additional training modules are required if an employee will transport any container larger than 8 gallons capacity, except for straight diesel, or if the total weight of all hazardous materials being transported on one vehicle is greater than 440 pounds.
Any driver who will transport a container larger than 119 gallons capacity or 1,001 pounds or more of hazardous material at one time must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with hazmat endorsement as well as complete the Additional Training modules above.
