Human Factors—Fatigue

Fatigue clouded the judgment and thinking of many of the firefighters. Fatigue made it hard for the firefighters to maintain awareness of what was happening around them, and to make good decisions.
According to the Thirtymile Fire Investigation Report:
 

"...the loss of even a single night's sleep (25.1 hours of wakefulness) impairs decision-making and vigilance levels comparable to a blood alcohol content of .10..." (p. 80).
