Describes a chest harness that allows persons operating heavy equipment or engines on wildland fires to have their fire shelter on them at all times. Because fire shelters have been difficult to wear, many operators have kept their fire shelter in a compartment, on the seat, or hanging from a knob. The shelter could easily be forgotten in an entrapment situation when the operator was forced to abandon the equipment. The fire shelter is available from the General Services Administration (NSN 8465-01-463-4648) or from the Fire Cache system (NFES #0294).
