The new Forest Service Road Management Policy requires science-based, interdisciplinary roads analysis. Forest supervisors are to complete forest-scale roads analyses within 2 years. These analyses will be conducted according to Forest Service Manual 1920 and 7700, and according to the guidelines in Roads Analysis: Informing Decisions About Managing the National Forest Transportation System, Miscellaneous Report FS-643. The Forest Service has produced a 23-minute video, A Science-Based Roads Analysis Process for the National Forests, that presents an overview of the process. A series of regional training sessions will be conducted during February and March 2001.
