Outka-Perkins, Lisa . 2003. Personal Safety in Remote Work Locations Module 3: Avoiding Trouble. 0367 2V03. Missoula, MT: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, National Technology and Development Program.

Personal Safety in Remote Work Locations is a video training program to help employees cope with the personal safety problems they encounter while working with the public.

Avoiding Trouble, the third module, has two parts. Part I is 17 minutes long and Part II is 23 minutes long.

This 40-minute video shows specific tactics employees can use to avoid trouble and protect their personal safety when coming across people or dangerous situations out in the field. It also includes specific tactics to use during face to face contacts with the public in remote locations. In this video, employees talk about such things as assessing for red flags, approaching people, keeping a safe distance, defusing upset and angry people, and getting out of dangerous encounters.
