Accessible Gate Latch

People with disabilities need to be able to open a gate latch with one hand and without applying too much force. MTDC worked with a Montana company to modify a ring latch, producing an accessible gate latch. Riders on horseback don't like to dismount when opening gates. They can open the latch with the toe of their boot and close the gate by swinging it shut, all while staying in the saddle.

Accessible Gates for Trails and Roads

If a Forest Service gate, berm, or other type of restriction blocks motorized vehicles but encourages foot access, accessibility for people with disabilities is required. This tech tip includes drawings for gates that meet accessibility requirements and, in some cases, allow horse access.
