Collecting Water Samples for Chemical Analysis: Streams
By Mary Ann Davies
The Forest Service is responsible for protecting watersheds in the National Forest System from the effects of deteriorating air quality. Since the 1980s, the Air Resource Management Program has been monitoring water quality in hundreds of lakes and streams, primarily in wilderness areas. Water samples are analyzed for air pollution effects from atmospheric deposition to help land managers make decisions for planning statewide air quality strategies.
This training presentation shows how to locate sites where water quality samples can be collected, how to collect water samples properly, and how to measure stream discharge, width, depth, and temperature. The presentation is available at HTML (Username: t-d, Password: t-d).
