How To Set Up and Use the E-Sampler for Monitoring Smoke

By Mary Ann Davies

The Met One E-Sampler is a small, portable smoke particulate monitor that uses a combination of two sampling techniques: light-scattering and gravimetric. The light-scattering technique provides real-time measurement of airborne particulate. The gravimetric technique deposits particulate matter onto a filter that can be analyzed to determine a correction factor. The correction factor improves the accuracy of the light-scattering technique's real-time measurements.

A 25-minute training presentation "How to Set Up and Use the E-Sampler for Monitoring Smoke" is available at http://www.airsis.com/usfs/flash/fla09252F01/index.htmll

You can also request the presentation on a CD by calling MTDC at 406-329-3978 or by sending an email to wo_mtdc_pubs@fs.fed.us

Another training aid, "Quick Sheet for Operating the E-Sampler Smoke Particulate Monitor and Airsis Satellite Telemetry System," is available at http://www.airsis.com/usfs/pdf/quicksheet_esampler.pdf

The E-Sampler training joins the other training aids for the E-Bam and DataRAM4 smoke particulate monitors at the Interagency Real-Time Smoke Monitoring Web site (http://www.airsis.com/usfs/links.asp).
