Firefighters use fusees to ignite fires for prescribed burns and during wildland fire suppression. Because fusees contain potassium perchlorate, a hazardous material, they must be handled with care to prevent water contamination or accidental ignition. This tech tip discusses the proper techniques for use, transport, and disposal of fusees.
