Noise-induced hearing loss is an occupational concern. Forest Service employees performing their duties can be exposed to loud noises for varying lengths of time. Hearing loss in these situations almost always is preventable. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires employers to provide personal protective equipment and guidance on how to properly use it. This tech tip offers information on hearing loss and hearing conservation programs along with evaluations of some commercially-available hearing protection devices.
