Every year Forest Service employees are injured and sometimes killed by falling trees or tree limbs. Learning to identify these indicators is a key safety component. Dean McGeough, a danger tree specialist, identifies danger tree indicators in mountainous, timbered terrain.

When trees become diseased or damaged, they may weaken or rot. As trees lose strength, they become susceptible to failure from environmental factors, such as wind, snow, rain, and gravity. This 34–minute safety video program shows you what to watch for while you work.
