Thistle, Harold W.; Reardon, Richard . 1999. Pheromone Placement Tracer Test: Experimental Design. 9934 2842. Missoula, MT: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, National Technology and Development Program.
Describes the experimental design for the second year of the pheromone tracer program. The study was conducted in 1999 in an oak/hickory forest in Virginia. The target insect was the European gypsy moth. The pheromone application was performed by aerial application of small flakes. In June 1998 a similar experiment was conducted to measure the pheromone dispersion environment in the trunk space of ponderosa pine. The target insect was the pine beetle. Bubble caps of pheromone in the trunk space eluted pheromone over a period of weeks to months in that study.
