Software Evaluations Eaglepoint is software designed to work with Autocad as plug in modules. There are five modules that can be combined to create landscape simulations. These modules are Surface Modeling, Landscape Design, Plant Database, Site Analysis, and Virtual Simulator. This software is primarily aimed at the landscape field. It is not designed for large landscapes, although it will accommodate them. It will import DEM’s and Arc files and produce terrains. Vegetation is placed in a 2-D space in Autocad and converted to a 3D model in the 3D simulation. Placing stands of trees would become tedious and very time consuming.
Ease of Use
The software is fairly easy to use, especially if you are already familiar with Autocad.
Ease of viewpoint placement
Viewpoints are placed by locating them with the mouse.
Terrain accuracy
Terrain is as accurate as the terrain being imported.
Vegetation accuracy
Vegetation can be placed by defining density, height, and diameter of the crowns. The realism of the trees is not that good.
Ease of vegetation manipulation
The software has a tree harvest utility that allows the user to select harvest parameters and harvest stands. Trees are placed individually, so this software would not work well for landscapes.
Photo-realism
This software does not provide really high realism as far as the vegetation is concerned.
Walk-through/Fly-through capable
It is very easy to create a walk-through movie and save it as an avi file.
Training availability
Eaglepoint provides support and training for their products.
