Road Construction and Maintenance Road construction and or road maintenance is typically a significant cost that is occurred prior to commencing harvest operations. The cost of constructing and or maintaining a section of road can be accomplished by putting together a list of required equipment and materials, calculating the hourly machine cost (see also machine costing spreadsheet), and estimating the number of hours each machine is to be used. At Virginia Tech we have developed a basic spreadsheet that approaches the costing in a systematic way. It provides default values associated with typical costs that can be changed by the user based on site-specific information. |
