Short length of flexible wire rope or chain used to attach logs to a winch line or directly to the extraction machine. The wire rope forms a noose around the end of a log. Originally just a large 'C-hook' was attached to the end of the line, but most common nowadays is a sliding choker bell that is set and released manually. Both electronic release and mechanical (impact) releaser chokers are available.
