Harvesting Systems
A combination of machines that allows us to complete the whole harvesting process, from stump to mill, is known as a harvesting system. Below are some combinations that are common.
- Conventional mechanized ground-based system (flat terrain) consisting of a wheeled feller-buncher; grapple skidder; trailer mounted loader.
- Conventional ground-based system (mountain system) consists of a chainsaw, cable skidder, and trailer mounted loader.
- Mechanized ground-based system (mountain system mechanized) consisting of a tracked feller buncher; tracked cable skidder; trailer mounted loader.
- Swamp - Shovel Logging System consisting of an excavator based cutting unit, a shovel, and a grapple skidder.
- In-woods chipping system consisting of a feller buncher, grapple skidder, in-woods chipper, and chip vans for transport.
- Cut-to-length system consisting of a harvester and a forwarder.
- Cable logging/harvesting consisting of a chainsaw, cable yarder, grapple skidder, and a loader.
- Helicopter which uses a helicopter for yarding and may use chainsaw or mechanized felling.
- Potential new trail to road system, the direct transport system.
- Farm tractor harvesting systems.
