  1. Provide technical support to Forest Service Fire and Aviation Management (F&AM) on matters relating to fire chemicals. This includes
  • Developing specifications to evaluate and qualify wildland fire chemicals,

  • Maintaining a Qualified Products List (QPL) of fire chemicals which meet the Forest Service requirements,

  • Monitoring chemicals purchased under the contract through the Lot Acceptance and Quality Assurance Program,

  • Protecting the safety of firefighting personnel, the general public and the environment,

  • Working to solve problems that have a wide-ranging impact on wildland firefighting efforts.
  1. Evaluate wildland fire chemicals in the laboratory to ensure that they meet agency requirements.

  2. Based on input from fire suppression personnel, recommend modifications to performance requirements for wildland fire chemicals. Develop test procedures and requirements to include in wildland fire chemical specifications and for unique applications as needs arise.

  3. Provide technical expertise for field performance evaluations of wildland fire chemicals and work cooperatively with federal, state, and private agencies.

  4. Make the information developed available to fire suppression personnel through national, regional, and local training classes and workshops, application guides, participation on advisory boards, and through publications, videos, and other media.
