Wildland Firefighter Health and Safety Report: No. 9 (0551–2803–MTDC) discusses the importance of a balanced and nutritious diet that can help firefighters meet energy demands and vitamin and mineral needs. The report outlines nutritional requirements, describes how servings of fruits and vegetables are measured, and includes a sample food plan. The report provides summaries of recent field studies of supplemental feeding and its effects on cognitive function and on the influence of hydration on the core temperature of wildland firefighters.
