Figure 3—149

Sign with a poem that encourages visitors to water the young plants.

Above is a sign with a poem that encourages visitors to water the young plants. It reads:

Please water me!

Ode To A Young Plant, Pining

In bare spots on the river side,
little trees and shrubs reside.
They're planted there to help reveg
the worn out sites along the edge
.

Their roots will reach the water table
just as soon as they are able.
But now the hot sum makes them pine
for water--cool, fresh and fine
.

If by the river side you see
a wilting plant, a pining tree.
take heed, dear friend, and hear its plea:
"Oh passerby, please water me!"

Respect the River
