Brandon Green—2013 Engineering Technician of the Year
Brandon Green works as a project engineer on the Willamette National Forest as part of the Pacific Northwest Region’s engineering subregion. He is recognized for his leadership in improving and monitoring aquatic organism passage (AOP) designs and for the successful planning, design, and construction of AOP capital improvements projects, developed recreation facilities, and slope stabilization projects for the forests within the subregion.
Brandon was born and raised in Oregon. Growing up, he spent the majority of his time outdoors on his family’s 354 acres, so he feels at home working for the Forest Service.
He began his Forest Service career in 2003 as a temporary employee on a survey crew with the Umpqua National Forest before joining the Student Career Experience Program in 2004. He became a permanent employee in 2005 after receiving an associate’s degree in civil engineering from Umpqua Community College. He has since completed additional coursework at Oregon State University and has moved into his current position with the subregion engineering organization.
Brandon performs a wide variety of tasks that include survey, design, contract preparation, and the administration of complex construction projects, such as large culverts, retaining walls, riprap buttresses, recreation sites, boat ramps, and trail bridges. He considers the mentoring he has received with the Forest Service to be the foundation of his career.
Brandon has great support from his wife Karee. She works in a dental office and always keeps him grounded. They have two lovely children: Taylin, 8, and Camden, 4, and one Great Dane: Gracie. Brandon enjoys camping, hunting, fishing, turning wrenches, and cheering on his kids at their activities.
