    Description

Riparian areas are important for many reasons including timber, residential areas, biodiversity, recreation, and industry. Because of the intricate land/water interface, these lands require special care. Determining what this care should be requires more knowledge than we currently have. Hence, the North Central Research Station (NCRS) has initiated the Sustaining Riparian Landscapes Integrated Program. NCRS scientists and their partners investigate the impacts of different riparian delineation and quantification methods and the impacts of human actions from development to restoration. Research projects include regeneration of oak bottomlands, landscape impacts of best management practices, landowner understanding of riparian health, and restoration of Rust Belt landscapes.
