DescriptionThis computer program analyzes both timber and deer food production on managed forests, providing estimates of the number of acres required per deer for each week or month, yearly timber cuts, and current timber growing stock, as well as a cost and return analysis of the timber operation. Input variables include stand descriptors, controls on management, stumpage prices, and costs of various activities and practices. Equations and constants contained in the program estimate the production of various classes of deer food from these timber stand and management parameters. Foods are evaiuated in terms of seasonal nutrient content and the metabolic requirements of white-tailed deer. The program is applicable to loblolly pine plantations in east Texas and Louisiana but can be readily modified for other species or areas.
