The IX NOC was dedicated to the memory of Maria Koepcke for her dedication and contributions to Neotropical ornithology and especially to Peruvian ornithology (Servat et al., this volume). The meeting with more than 800 participants from 25 countries adhered to high quality standards of international science and stimulated the interchange of information pertaining to scientific advances in research and conservation of Neotropical birds. The congress’s venue in the imperial city of Cusco facilitated the participants’ interactions and offered superb opportunities for exploration of the region’s rich biological, geological, and cultural diversity.
