DescriptionThe logging of forest products is influenced by many factors, including the size of the trees, density of the stand, the soundness of the trees, size of the area logged, topography and soil, weather conditions, the degree of utilization, the skill of the logger and the equipment used, the distance from market, etc. Each of these factors influences not only the method of logging but also the costs. The purpose of this paper is not to cover in detail the effect of each of these variations, but to deal with some of the major problems typical to logging aspen. Well-known practices common to all logging operations will be mentioned only briefly.
