The Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland are rich not only in natural history, but in human history. Learn more about archaeological activities and the human history of the forest and grassland.

In 1993, the consolidation of the Medicine Bow National Forest and Thunder Basin National Grassland with the Routt National Forest was proposed. The Chief of the Forest Service approved the consolidation in February 1995, and the forests were administratively combined.  For more Forest Service History click here.
