Under Analysis

Amendments to Land Management Plans Regarding Sage-grouse Conservation

The Forest Service is considering amending its land management plans to address new and evolving issues arising since implementing sage-grouse plans in 2015. This project is in cooperation with the USDI Bureau of Land Management.

Andrus and Bull Creek Allotments Range Improvement Project

This project proposes to develop 10 springs, construct two drift fences totaling 1.5 miles of fence on the allotments, and install a hardened water crossing at the fence line's water gap on Bailey Creek.

Bender and Doolittle Creek Fish Barriers

We propose to install fish barriers in two locations to increase the amount of habitat available to westslope cutthroat trout(WCT)in Bender and Doolittle creeks in the Big Hole River drainage. The project will support MTFWP work to restore WCT.

CDNST Pipestone Pass Trailhead Project

The project would address public safety for CDNST users for safe ingress/egress at Pipestone Pass. The Proposed Action would construct a new trailhead approximately 1,000 feet east of the current location for 10 vehicles and 4 truck/trailers.

Christiansen Creek Conifer Expansion

Hand cut or burn conifers seedlings and saplings expanding into 11 units in Christiansen Creek as displayed in the Project Area Map in order to move conditions toward forest plan vegetation goals.

Cornish Gulch Exploration

The proposed action would authorize Mr. Nelson to placer mine a pile of material that measures approximately 20 feet wide, 40 feet long and 10 feet high.

Eagle's Nest Trail Extension

This project is to construct about 2,280 ft. of non-motorized trail parallel to the road from the Eagles Nest Trailhead to the picnic area. The trail will provide a safer route for bikers, hikers, and horseback riders who currently use the road.

East Fork Divide Creek Beaver Analog

The purpose of this project is to restore a natural functioning wetland system to East Fork Divide Creek. Beaver analog structures will promote increased connectivity to the floodplain and groundwater storage, re-wetting the broad riparian corridor.

Goldberg Water System Decomission

This project proposes to decommission an irrigation water system consisting of a diversion, ditch, flume and reservoir to resolve safety concerns and restore the natural water flow.

Greenhorns Project

The proposed project is to help restore and maintain the structure, function, composition and ecological connectivity of the forest system in order to increase resiliency to future natural disturbance events like wildfire, insects, and disease.

Little Hogback - Meyers Salvage Project

Beaverhead - Deerlodge National Forest is proposing to salvage 1,531 acres of dead, dying or imminently dead timber from the Little Hogback and Meyers fires of 2017.

Narrows Pond Dam Reconstruction

We propose to rebuild the dam on Narrows Pond which breached slightly and eroded over time. We seek to rebuilt it 2 feet higher to hold enough water to support embryo development and fry emergence of Artic Grayling and westslope cutthroat trout.

Nelson Water Pipeline Special Use Permit

This project is a proposal to issue a special use permit to allow connection of a pipeline to the overflow of a water trough on NFS lands and install approximately 2000 feet of subsurface line to water livestock on adjacent private land.

Pintler Face

Purpose is to achieve Forest Plan Goals including timber management, aquatic improvement, wildlife habitat improvement. Proposed activities include commercial timber harvest, travel management, and reduction of conifer encroachment in sagebrush.

Red Rocks Vegetation Project

Reduce stand density and increase age class, size class, and species diversity; reduce conifer encroachment; provide forest products.

Sadler Private Road Special Use Permit

Permit vehicle access to private property through across 56 feet of National Forest land. It would allow the holder to improve, use and maintain a private driveway.

Schwinegar Lake Trail #2259 Reroute

We plan to decommission the lower portion of Schwinegar Lake Trail #2259 that is eroding and causing resource damage. We propose to reroute about three quarters of a mile of trail along the contour line of the slope to tie in with Trail #2758.

Selway Gravel Pits Expansion

Proposal to expand up to four existing gravel pits in the Selway and Bloody Dick Drainages over the next 20 years for road improvement projects. Two pits are in the Tash Peak and one in the West Big Hole IRA. See scoping letter and maps.

Selway Meadows Hardened Stream Crossings

We propose to install up to three hardened stream crossings and sections of fence at primary livestock crossing sites on the lower reach of Selway Creek. The project would protect streambanks, reduce sediment, and narrow the stream channel.

South Gravelly Allotment Management Plans

Review grazing practices and infrastructure for 4 domestic livestock grazing allotments (Eureka Basin, Pole Creek, Southwest Corner and Robb Creek)to ensure compliance with applicable Forest Plan direction.

Strawberry to Cascade Allotment Management Plan

Revise as necessary grazing management on the Barnett, Black Butte, Coal Creek, Cottonwood, Fossil, Hellroaring, Lyon, Wolverine, Poison Basin and portions of the Upper Ruby allotments in the Gravelly Mountains.

Trail Creek Grassland Conifer Removel

We seek to improve riparian vegetation structure and composition in the Trail Creek area, proactively removing expanding conifers in this area would ensure this valuable riparian shrub/willow component is maintained and allowed to improve overtime.

Analysis Completed

BDNF Aspen Project

Increase aspen component in places where assessment indicates a need and conditions are favorable to support aspen using a variety of treatments.

Forest Plan Supplemental EIS and New Information Review - Bighorn Sheep

Supplemental analysis for the 2009 FEIS approving the Beaverhead-Deerlodge Forest Plan in response to a June 14, 2016 Court Order to disclose potential environmental affects from interagency MOUS dated 2002 and 2008 for a bighorn sheep transplant

Roadside Hazard Tree Removal #9

This project will remove dead, dying, and structurally unsound trees within 150 of either side of identified Forest Services roads and a portion of MT Highway 43 to reduce the hazard they pose to the travelling public.

On Hold

Chief Joseph Ski Trail Maintenance & Construction

Project would re-shaping the existing road prism on the old log hauling routes used as ski trails and dig stumps on approximately 32 kilometers of cross country ski trails and construct a connector trail between Moose and Sentinel Meadow trails.

Willow Creek Fish Barrier

We propose to work with Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks to modify the existing waterfall on Willow Creek to become a fish barrier to contribute toward future native fish restoration and benefit existing restoration projects.

Cancelled

Bull Creek Allotment Range Improvements

This project proposes development of four springs on the Bull Creek Grazing Allotment in order to better distribute cattle and grazing use which will allow the permittee more flexibility to meet allowable use levels.
