It travels past a restored train trestle, over two trail bridges, through a highway underpass, and along segments of the historic Rio Grande Southern (RGS) railway. The route is diverse, following forest roads, single track trails, and portions of the historic railroad grade.  There are several places the trail can be accessed from Highway 145 and from the Ilium Road between Telluride and Lizard Head Pass as shown on the attached map.
