Recreation crews continue to cut open trails in and around the Black Elk Wilderness and Norbeck Wildlife Preserve area. Crews use crosscut saws to clear the trails. Many of the trails have been cleared at least once since June 1, but the number of downed trees across trails can change in an instant from storms passing over the Black Elk Wilderness. Please use caution when entering the Wilderness. At any given time, trees can fall without warning.
Construction will begin on the Camp 5 OHV parking area around August 29, 2014. This area will be closed to camping during and after the construction. The parking area will be day use only. Camping will still be available in the Camp 5 area south of this location.
