Many of the trails located within the Black Elk Wilderness are cleared in early summer time, but the number of downed trees across trails can change in an instant from storms passing over the Black Elk Wilderness. Remember to Look Up, Look Down and Be Aware of Your Surroundings!
Norris Peak Road is closed to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from just North of the intersection with Highway 44 to just South of the intersection with National Forest Service Road 721. Plans are to re-open the road before the 4th of July.
This is a Federal Highways/South Dakota Department of Transportation project that the Black Hills National Forest is working as a cooperating agency on. Federal Highways/ SD DOT is realigning 0.75 miles of Norris Peak Road to remove two sharp reverse curves, widen the road, and install culverts. The road is closed to finish construction.
