As a visitor to the National Forest, you are asked to follow certain rules designed to protect the Forest and the natural environment, to ensure the health and safety of visitors, and to promote pleasant and rewarding outdoor recreation experiences for all visitors.
The Eagle Lake District is planning to burn in the Dow Mountain area.
Descriptive Location: Dow Underburn unit 6 – Dow Butte area Northwest of Eagle Lake
Legal Location: T33N/R10E/Sec.15
Type of Burn: Broadcast-timber litter, grass
Total acreage: 75 acres
Planned initiation: Tuesday, October 18 - Wednesday, October 19
Duration of ignition: Total of 1 day, depending on conditions
Estimated direction of smoke travel: Primarily South to Southeast
Communities or Smoke Sensitive Areas: Smoke will be visible from Spalding and Highway 139. These are re-entry units and will produce relatively little smoke due to the light fuel loadings.

Please be advised of the following plans for prescribed burning on the Eagle Lake Ranger District, depending on conditions and resource availability:
Project Name: Champs DFPZ Underburn
Legal Location: T33N/R8E/ Sec.24 and T33N/R9E/Sec.19
Descriptive Location: South of Harvey Mountain, North of Harvey Valley
Type of burn: Understory, timber litter and some brush
Total Acreage: 200-600 acres
Planned Ignition: Starting Oct. 17, continuing through Oct. 21
Duration of Ignition and Smoke Production: 2-4 days
Estimated Direction of Smoke Travel: North, Northeast
Communities or Smoke Sensitive Areas: Smoke will be visible from Hwy 44 near Poison Lake (from the north) and Bogard Work Center/ County Rd A-21 (from the south)

Chester, CA…Christmas tree cutters are being advised the closures will affect all Almanor District offices, including Chester, Butte Meadows, and Mineral stations for Saturday, December 18, 2010. Therefore, staff will not be available to sell Christmas Tree Permits.
If you currently have your permit, please be advised weather and road conditions may change at any time. It’s a good idea to check the weather forecast and road conditions before embarking on a trip to the Forest. Information on highway conditions may be obtained by calling 1-800-427-ROAD.
The District is discouraging visitors from visiting the Forest this weekend due to the National Weather Service’s “Winter Storm Watch,” which is predicting periods of heavy snow and high winds.

In the spirit of the holiday season, the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture has granted early closures for USDA Departments, which includes the offices of the Lassen National Forest. Therefore, please be advised that on Wednesday, November 24th, Forest offices will close at 2:30 p.m.
Also, please note that offices will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday and will re-open on Friday, November 26th at 8:00 a.m.
Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), the prohibitions listed in Order number 06-09-02, applicable to the Lassen National Forest, dated August 6, 2009, and signed by Acting Forest Supervisor Christopher O’Brien are hereby terminated by me, Forest Supervisor Kathleen S. Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), the prohibitions listed in Order Number 96-1 Vehicle Use Closure at McGowan Lake and Colby Meadows Cross Country Ski Areas, applicable to the Lassen National Forest, dated the 27th day of February, 1996, and signed by Leonard Atencio are hereby terminated by my authority as Forest Supervisor, effective at midnight on the 30th day of September 2010.
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), and to protect natural resources, the following act is prohibited within the Lassen National Forest. This order is effective from July 13, 2009 through July 12, 2010.
